ELRC OF YEREVAN STATE UNIVERSITY

FACULTY OF LAW 

We are pleased to welcome you at the web page of a unique university hub in the South Caucasus Region created to conduct environmental law researches. The Centre you are exploring now was established On 16 September, 2008 according to the memorandum signed between Yerevan State University and OSCE Office in Armenia. Currently Centre operates under the program of the State Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia.
 

THE MISSION OF CENTER IS

  • To promote effective implementation of environmental legislation in Armenia.   
  • To expand and strengthen the capacity of Law Faculty in the sphere of environmental law researches,
  • To promote the implementation of provisions of UNECE Convention «On Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in environmental matters» (Aarhus Convention) in Armenia.
  • To promot environmental awareness among the students and youth. 


To fulfill comprehensively the aforementioned objectives ELRC cooperates with the Parliament, Government and Judicial system of Armenia, self-governance bodies as well as with leading foreign institutions and universities, international and national non-governmental organizations.   
 

WHAT WE ACHIVED

Within 2008-2011 time period ELRC

  • Submitted  remarks and suggestions on 15 drafts of legal acts,
  • Passed 15 trainings on various features  of environmental legislation for different stakeholders,
  • Passed 21 public hearings of law drafts,
  • Organized 4 student scientific conferences and moot-court competition,
  • Published 4 researches and methodical materials, as well 20 scientific articles, 
  • Implemented more than 10 students awareness raising and involvement campaigns.

ELRC became a member of IUCN Environmental Law Academy in 2011 and serves as an expert organization for the National Assembly of Armenia based on the memorandum signed between the latter one and the Law Faculty.

This is on our agenda to continue the established activities of ELRC contemporaneously creating new dimensions for its sound evolution.
